Where Have I Been?

In the last month, I allowed my day-job life to overflow. Work hours invaded author hours, and even the scant time I could dedicate to reading was lost. It’s been a rather stressful situation, and the self-induced guilt of not writing here or even maintaining my social media definitely made things worse.

As we get to the end of the year, I want to finish out strong. #12books12months is still in process. Book 4 of my Warlock of Rochester series is taking a bit longer than planned, so I’m working on having the January 2019 release ready to go in case I have to switch them. Those of you who follow me on Twitter already know, but I have had two huge plot lines from book 4 removed. They’ll become books 5 and 6 respectively. Which means my planned book 5 is now book 7. I planned a big series, but there’s so much entanglement. I’m grateful, really, cause this means I get to play with multi-book plots and villains. It’s just exhausting.

Anyway, I have released the pre-order for the 3rd book (SMOKE & MIRRORS). It’s my favorite in the series so far. Jon strikes out a bit more on his own. It introduces two of my favorite villains, and one of the big underlining problems of the magic community comes into focus – though from reviews on GoodReads, one or two of you have realized there’s something not entirely right about the Daughters and the way they run the whole shindig.

Most of that plot was moved to book 5 (tentatively titled: BAD BLOOD). I took entire chapters out of book 4 for it, and they have a very fun detective tone. I don’t think I’ve ever struggled so much with removing sections of a book, especially when I knew they were going to be used somewhere still.

The plot material moved for book 6 (tentatively titled: FIRE FIGHT) will focus on the fall out in BAD BLOOD and on tying up a number of loose ends. It may end up being recombined with book 7 or it may not if I feel it’s too busy. We’ll see.

All this is to say, I’m working hard. Even when I don’t post here, I’m still writing, but I resolve to not allow my day job to take over my life. We’ll see how I do.
